So, Right now we’re going to tell you the tutorial on How we can enable USB Storage Mode in Samsung Galaxy S3 mobile phone. As we all know that Samsung Galaxy S3 doesn’t support USB Mass Storage Mode (UMS) in it, it could be a very hectic task to connect your device again and again in Kies Mode (Cos, it’s very slow and I really don’t like that Kies!).
An XDA Developer has come up with his standalone application that helps you to connect your mobile phone to your PC with USB Mass storage mode. Galaxy S3 users will have to use MTP instead of UMS mode.
How To Enable Mass Storage Mode in Samsung Galaxy S3
- Download the USB Mass Storage APK file created by the XDA Developer.
- Now, Connect your mobile phone to your computer.
- Transfer the downloaded file to your mobile phone now.
- Disconnect your mobile phone from the PC.
- Now, open the file browser on your mobile phone and search for the file that we had transferred earlier on the device. Tap on the application and start the installation process.
- Installation will be complete now.

- Now, open the application and select any option as shown in the capture.
That’s the only way how one can enable mass storage mode in Samsung Galaxy S3 mobile phone, thanks to the developer who has made it possible. Galaxy Note 2 users can look into this tutorial for enabling mass storage mode on their devices. I believe this application should work on newer Samsung device such as the Note 10.1 and other tab devices that are launched.

hi
i downloaded this app to get try and get ums mode to work on my s3 but i get an error message about the root being in use . i have disconnected the phone. any clues how to make this work .
THANKS
Your phone needs to be rooted. Something this article forgets to mention. Its easy to root your phone, shouldn’t take more than a minute, but remember it will void your warranty (unless you get triangle counter or something, which has the potential to destroy your phone, literally, if not used properly). I just rooted my phone, I didn’t do the triangle counter thingy.
Thanks for your feedback and Yes that’s right. Rooting isn’t a big problem when you have Galaxy S3 Toolkit installed on your computer.
I use a Mac and OSX Mountain Lion doesn’t support Samsung kies, so I needed this app, but it has drawbacks. This app only supports the slightly outdated fat32 format which means the maximum file size I can transfer is 4GB, so no HD movies on my phone for me
I hope they introduce exfat soon. I’m still pretty pissed at samsung for the exclusion of UMS support. I have a Galaxy s running Jelly Bean (custom rom) which support UMS mode, why can’t samsung’s best phone do the same, at least for external memory cards.I understand MTP allows for more internal SD memory and thus games like NOVA 3 can actually be downloaded to the phone without much concern, but they could have figured out a way to use a 32 GB memory card and partition it into 16 for personal UMS use and MTP internal app and system memory use. The reason I use android is for its freedom, but samsung has successfully pulled off an apple by forcing us to use kies just like iOS users are forced to use iTunes, but kies is so much more horrible to use. I’m forced to use kies even on Windows.
I can’t seem to open this on my mac, says ‘no available application can open it’ ?? I need it to get doubletwist to use UMS. Am I missing something?
You have to copy/paste this file on your mobile phone. No need to open on your Mac or PC.
You need to root your mobile phone.

you can use airdroid if you don’t want to root
Sure we can, but it’s speed will largely depend on your WiFi speed. If you don’t have a WiFi router, then you can’t use AirDroid.
Is this for external memory only? Can i gain access to internal memory by using this app?
External and internal both
is it possible to gain access to internal memory?
Yes, you can. Use the ES file explorer to do so.
Though it is a good breakthrough, it doesnt work on internal memoy.. any way to view contents of internal memory through UMS on PCs?
No, not possible at the moment.
