The Square pixels are so 2012. Even bragging about the screen resolution is late 2012, what’s hot is the shapes of the pixels of which screen is made of. Samsung reportedly testing some new shapes for the display of the new Galaxy S4. As the Pentile is gone from Samsung’s dictionary and RGB is not their taste, we can expect some new shapes from Samsung this year. Apparently Samsung is preparing to switch over to Hexagon or diamond shaped pixels.

According to the so-called industry sources of DigiTimes, this is due to the fact that super high density 1080p displays are hard to produce. Gong beyond the 440ppi limit on a 5-inch FHD screen is a cumbersome task and so by switching over to some polygon can make the task a bit easier
