Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P5100 users can now Install P5100XXBLK4 Firmware on their devices and root the same. The update is rolling out for the Galaxy Tab 2 users in Australia who are subscribed to Optus. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is in the list of devices that are going to receive the official Jelly Bean update, and we’ll cover the tutorial for that too, once it arrives. So, if you’re looking to update your device with the XXBLK4 Update then you can do so by checking the OTA update, or Kies on your computer. If both of these doesn’t work for you due to some reasons then we’re here with the manual installation procedure.

For manually installing Android 4.0.4 ICS based XXBLK4 Firmware on your device, you would have to use Samsung’s Odin tool on your computer, after the installation of the firmware is complete, we’ll be checking out the rooting procedure as well because the root access will be lost once we update the device with this official firmware.

Backup everything that is stored on your device before proceeding with this tutorial. Install XXBLK4 Firmware on Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

Step #1: Download P5100XXBLK4 Firmware and Odin tool.

Step #2: Extract both packages that you’ve downloaded. Move the files to a convenient location of your computer.

Step #3: Turn off your Galaxy Tab 2 and now boot the same into download mode. Press and hold Volume UP + Power buttons together and wait for the boot. A warning screen would come up, just press Volume Down to continue.

Step #4: Connect your device to your computer while its in download mode and now start the Odin tool on your computer.

Step #5: Run Odin on your computer, select the files as shown below:

  1. Click on ‘PDA Tab’ and select the file having ‘CODE’ in it’s name.
  2. Click on ‘Phone Tab’ and select the file having ‘MODEM’ in it’s name. Ignore if there isn’t any file with this name.
  3. Click on ‘CSC Tab’ and select the file having ‘CSC’ in it’s name.
  4. Click on ‘PIT Tab’ and select the .pit file. Ignore if there’s isn’t any.

Step #6: Tick the Auto Reboot and F.Reset time checkboxes under the odin window and start the process of installation by pressing the START Button.

Step #7: Wait for the installation to complete, after the installation is complete, A pass message would come up with green background under the Odin window. Remove your device after you’re able to see it.

Root XXBLK4 Firmware on Tab 2

Step #1: Download CF-Root and Odin (use previous link).

Step #2: Extract Odin and CF-Root Package.

Step #3: Turn off your tab 2 now and boot it into download mode.

Step #4: Run Odin tool on your computer now and select files as shown below

1.  PDA Tab > CF-Auto-Root-espresso10rf-espresso10rfxx-gtp5100.tar.md5

Step #5: Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time boxes should be tick marked. Double Check everything and proceed by hitting the START Button.

That’s all. You’ve successfully Installed and Rooted the XXBLK4 Firmware on your Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.
