The Android 4.2 update for most of the Nexus devices had started rolling out Yesterday. Most of you might have updated your devices already with the OTA update that would have arrived. But those who haven’t got the update on their devices can use this article written by us to manually update their devices.
The update is available over the air, you can check that by heading to Settings >> About Phone >> System Updates >> and then tap on “check now”. A notification should come up, it it does then you do not require to update your device manually. This update can be applied to your device only if it is on the stock firmware with build number JZO54K (check by heading to Settings » About tablet » Build Number). The update for Android 4.2 comes with a build number JOP04C.
Those having TWRP or ClockworkMod Recovery installed on their devices can simply download and transfer the file to their devices and simply flash through recovery. Backup everything stored on your Nexus 7, You can use Nexus 7 Toolkit or our ADB Backup Guide. Disable Kies Software, Firewall, and Antivirus Software before starting with the procedure as they can clutter in between the procedure.
Install Android 4.2 OTA Update on Nexus 7
Step #1: Download the files given below:
OTA Update file | 094f6629314a.signed-nakasi-JOP40C-from-JZO54K.094f6629.zip
Fastboot file | Fastboot.zip
Step #2: Extract fastboot package and move the files inside the folder to C drive of your computer. After doing this, move the firmware package the “Fastboot” folder.
Note: You can scroll through the recovery options using the Volume Rockers. Press the Power button to select any option.
Step #3: Turn off your Nexus 7 now and boot the same into recovery mode. Press and hold Volume Down + Power Button and wait for the screen to turn on. Now, keep on scrolling using the Volume buttons until you aren’t able to see “Start” being changed to “recovery mode”.
Step #4: You would be able to see the Android warning screen now. Press and hold Volume UP + Power Button to boot into recovery. From the recovery screen select “apply update from adb“.
Step #5: Now your device would be able to take adb commands. Start command prompt on your computer now with admin privileges.
- First navigate command prompt to the fastboot folder. Enter the command “cd C:\Fastboot” to do so.
- Enter the command “adb devices“, this will bring up your device ID.
- Now, time to flash the update on the device. Enter “adb sideload 094f6629314a.signed-nakasi-JOP40C-from-JZO54K.094f6629.zip” to do so.
- You will be able to see a message “sending: sideload” once sideload reaches 100% the update will start installing.
Step #6: After the update has been successfully applied to the device, head back to the main recovery screen and select “reboot system now”.
That’s it. You’ve successfully updated Nexus 7 with Android 4.2 JOP04C OTA Update. Try out all new stuff that comes with this new firmware.
