Asus has already rolled out the Jelly bean update for the Asus Transformer TF700 users. As the rolled out update is official, the root access will be lost upon updating the device. But, the good news is that “hiemanshu” a senior XDA dev has released a method which can be used to root the Asus Transformer running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Your device should be unlocked and should be having ClockworkMod Recovery installed on it. The procedure is pretty easy if you fulfill all the requirements. Follow all the given steps carefully.
Warning and Disclaimer
This is all development stuff and in this tutorial we’ll be flashing the file in order to make it work on your device, rooting and flashing stuff voids the warranty of the mobile phone but the warranty can be always retained by flashing the Stock ROM.
Pre-Requisites
- This tutorial is only applicable for the Asus Transformer TF700 device. Not recommended for network locked devices.
- Important: Backup the data stored on your device. Read: Android ADB Backup Guide.
- Backup SMS messages, call logs, apn settings, Whatsapp messages, along with the ROM and important data stored on your device.
- Fully charge the device to prevent it from shutting down in between.
How To Root Asus Transformer TF700 on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
Step #1: Download the Transformer TF700 Rooting Package (filename: CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip).
Step #2: Connect your device to your computer and now transfer the downloaded file to the SD Card.
Step #3: Turn off your device and now boot into recovery mode. Press and Hold Volume Down + Power Button, a menu will appear. Just press the Volume UP button to continue booting to recovery.
Step #4: Select “install zip from SD Card” >> “choose zip from SD Card”. Now, locate the file that we had transferred on the device earlier. Wait for the installation to complete.
Step #5: After the installation of the ROM is complete, head back to the main recovery screen and select “reboot system now”.
That’s it. You’ve successfully rooted your Asus Transformer TF700 on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

I couldn’t get passed step 3 and 4. I can get to the “dos” like menu, but could not find “select “install…”"
There would be some similar option to install the zip file, the one which we have written is for CWM recovery.
I completed step 3 but all I saw was the android lying on his back.
What now?

You should probably double check if yout MicroSD card is formatted as FAT32.
I have done the same thing completed step 3 and got an android on his back with a red triangle with a ! in it. my sd card is fat32
Don’t worry, it just means that you have pressed the Volume Up button instead of the Volume Down button during the process. That’s it.
If you face something else, do let me know!!! Cheeers..

thanks for the reply Utkarsh I am using firmware 4.4.3 and when i press the volume down button that allows me to navigate between 4 choices in the bootloader. “RCK” , “ANDROID” “the USB Emblm and “wipe data” i have used all 3 options excpt “wipe data” Not an option at this time.
option RCK its the repair Kernel option and is where i see the Android icon on its back with the triangle. “ANDROID” boots Linix / android OS as usual. the usb emblem freezes my tablet i never get to the restore from SD option. please help?
I’m not able to understand what do you mean by “USB Emblm” although it looks like your Recovery is somewhat damaged. You can install the TWRP Recovery on your Transformer to solve this. Check here about this — http://tutznet.com/twrp-recovery-asus-transformer-tf700t-installation-procedure.html
I got to the clockworkmod recovery menu, but the volume keys wont toggle up or down. I can only press the power button to reboot the device. Can I fix this?
Reboot again into recovery, operating recovery isn’t possible without volume rockers.
